Storage
Film-footage is as valuable as data gets, and Codex goes to great lengths to protect it. Built to professional film-industry standards, Codex is weather-resistant, with no exposed holes and - like conventional film equipment - is designed to cope with everyday handling. Its DiskPacks are surrounded by shock-absorbing material and wrapped in carbon-fibre, effectively sealing them from the elements when removed from the system for transport or storage.

|
Codex is not just as secure as film, but actually more so. The media DiskPacks are RAID arrays, and the system allows mirroring of the footage as it is shot.
This means that - unlike film - there is no single point of failure (and if the DiskPacks are 'mirrored' in real-time, data loss due to mechanical failure is virtually impossible). Mirroring also allows you to send one set of DiskPacks back to the studio and keep the other set until your footage is safely 'back at base'.
|
Compare this with the unique, fragile nature of exposed film negatives, which can be lost, damaged or destroyed at any point between being loaded into the film camera and processing by the laboratory.
Codex DiskPacks also feature a front panel display, which can show details such as record space free, roll name and date, format and shot listing information. This battery-backed display can be used even when the DiskPack is removed from the system, making sure you always know what is on every single DiskPack.
Security
With Codex, it is possible to review all shots immediately after recording - and at full 4K quality, unlike conventional low-resolution video-assist systems. This ensures that you can be certain that each and every take is 'in the can' and removes the possibility of missed or unusable shots, maximising the amount of useful material captured on-set.
Furthermore, Codex can backup its recorded material via a network to another system whilst on location, or even send recorded takes anywhere in the world using secure, high-speed network connections, meaning that once a shot has been recorded into Codex it can be securely copied or backed up immediately for total security and peace of mind.
