Could some member (or members) from this WikProject take a look at Jeffrey James and assess it per WP:GNG and WP:NJOURNALIST. I'm not really seeing any sources cited that would be considered significant coverage per se, but perhaps I'm missing something. It also came up during a discussion over at c:Commons:Village pump/Copyright#gweiloasiaguy re wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_James that the subject of the article might've been editing it over the years, possibly even using multiple accounts, and may have actually created the article themselves using one of those accounts. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:28, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

Importance ratings

I’ve started reevaluating the importance of the Top importance articles by downrating most people and organizations and elevating key concepts. Does that make sense? Superb Owl (talk) 03:51, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

It makes sense, Superb Owl, in that I understand what you're saying. And I can easily believe that, say, William Randolph Hearst is less important than, say, Newspaper censorship. But the nonexistence of the latter suggests to me that for potential/actual editors, importance (as you or I might understand it) counts for little or nothing. People tend to write about what's important to them, i.e. what interests them. -- Hoary (talk) 01:45, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

Copy boy

Says "in the first two decades after World War II, most editors of medium and large newspapers in the US still considered their copy boys indispensable to "getting the paper out".". Not sure why the quotation makes. The example given is dated 1972, so more than the first two decades. Hm, I see that some is paraphrased from the source and a bit not actually backed by the source. No mention of ticker tape. Shouldn't that be in it? I know that when I was a copy boy in 1959 for The Miami Herald I was running ticker tape until I became the PA to the city editor. Request for input on AfD for actor, comedian and peace advocate Cliff Divine

Hello, I am reaching out for outside input on an AfD discussion related to the article about Cliff Divine. There appear to be several misunderstandings in the discussion, so I am hoping that editors from this project can help review the notability question with a clear look at the sources. First, it is important to note that Cliff Divine and Andrew Cliff Tisba are the same person. This can be verified through interviews, festival programs, public nonprofit documents, and media profiles. Some news outlets use one name while others use the other, but they all refer to the same individual. This clarification is important because it affects how the sources are interpreted. The article includes a large number of independent secondary sources from established news organizations. These include ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Orlando Sentinel, KHON2, KTVB, KUTV, Q2 Billings, and several international outlets. In these reports he is not mentioned briefly. I am participating only to correct factual misunderstandings and to help ensure the discussion stays focused on source quality and policy rather than assumptions about editors. In short, the subject has extensive coverage from reliable independent sources, including dozens of television news reports and multiple print and online publications. These appear to meet the requirements of WP:BIO, and I believe that additional input from this project would be valuable in assessing the article. The AfD discussion is here:

Discussion about WikiProject banner templates

For WikiProjects that participate in rating articles, the banners for talk pages usually say something like:

• "This article has been rated as Low-importance on the importance scale."

There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Article is out of date, but I have a COI

The article for Distributed Denial of Secrets is a year or two out of date. I would edit the article directly to update it, but I have a conflict of interest (I'm part of DDoSecrets). To make it as easy as possible for other editors, I've compiled over 80 RSes about DDoSecrets' 20 or so most recent publications over the last year and a half. If folks from the project can help bring the article up to date, it'd be really appreciated - a lot's happened in the last year or so.
