if its relavent, im on a lenovo e14 thinkpad with 24.04

i installed unity desktop from an linux capable article bc i thought it was unity game engine so i followed the instructions to uninstall it

at the end it said i MAY need to reinstall GNOME but it didnt say i had to or show a way to check if i had to (i was kinda annoyed at my mistake so was in a bit of a rush to uninstall it)

so i just rebooted it, but now it wont go to the login screen, its stuck on the rebooting screen and still says ubuntu unity - its been like this for like 30-40 mins

what do i do?? do i need to factory reset it?

  1. Open a text-only virtual console by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + F3.

  2. At the login: prompt type your username and press Enter.

  3. At the Password: prompt type your user password and press Enter.

  4. Install the Ubuntu desktop system by running the command: sudo apt update && sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop .

  5. Reboot by running sudo reboot .

If the installation was successful, it should boot into the graphical desktop again.
