I have very few softwares on my computer since I prefer to keep it lightweight, so I don't know if it's a more general issue or Discord specific. Everytime Discord has an update (which is quite often), I need to uninstall it first before updating. Here are the steps of the process :

  1. I select "download" on the prompt enter image description here

  2. I right click on the file and select "Open with other application", then "Software install" enter image description here

  3. I must click on the trashbin to uninstall it, because no other option exists. enter image description here

  4. I must close Software install and go back to step 2 to install. enter image description here

Is there any way to directly update it without having to do all this ? It's not that difficult but really bothering.

As you can see on the screenshots, I have Ubuntu 22.04.3 but the problem was the same when I was on 20.04.

I'm stuck in much the same boat as you, but have found an at least partial workaround. First, when the updater opens, select 'Linux (tar.gz)'.

You can download the resulting file, unzip it, then go into it and run the 'Discord' option. This will cause Discord to think that it is updating, and it will open fully a moment later. You don't have to re-download the file each time: so long as there isn't an actual Discord update, you can keep on using the old file.

As noted, this is the best solution I have been able to come up with, please do let me know if you can find a better one.
