Dear Metropolitan Police Service (MPS),
1. Does the Special Constabulary currently have a rank structure?
If yes:

3. What rank insignia do they use? (Please provide pictures if possible)
4. When did the Special Constabulary move to their current insignia?

6. If the insignia differs from regular officers, are there any plans to transition to match regular officers?
7. Does the force use the SC and Crown to identify Special Constables?
8. Are any collar number prefixes, suffixes or other divisional markings used to identify Special Constables?
Yours faithfully,

Hi Paul,
Thank you for providing the information in full.
Can you please clarify that the Special Inspector and Special Chief Inspector use the same insignia of 2 bars and not 2 bars for the S/Insp and 3 bars for the S/CI?
Similarly, can you just clarify as per your response the Special Assistant Chief Officer and Special Chief Officer both have laurel wreaths with 4 bars rather than the SACO having a laurel wreath with 3 bars and the SCO having a laurel wreath with 4 bars?
It would be unusual for two distinct ranks to have the same insignia and so I just wanted to make sure this was correct.
Thanks,
Chris Burns
Dear Mr Burns,
