Art Directors/ Set Decorators

Please note that requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must be met within the (4) four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

A minimum of three (3)years professional experience within a four (4) year period with screen credit as Production Designer, Set Decorator, Art Director or Scenic Designer (New York title) on at least 25 hours of telecommunications for national exhibition. The 25 hour screen credit requirement must be earned on a minimum of four (4) different productions/programs distributed for national exhibition and/or the Peer Group Executive Committee may require a portfolio review in order to determine and approve eligibility.

Any Production Designer, Set Decorator, Art Director or Scenic Designer (New York title) who has yet to compile the time or screen credits for Active membership. Any qualified assistant in these categories. Any Designer whose practice and activities can be shown to meet the criteria of the Peer Group.

Casting Directors

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Casting Director credited on-screen for a minimum of 25 (twenty-five) hours or 25 (twenty-five) episodes (not less than 20 minutes per episode) of scripted telecommunications for national exhibition; or 16 hours of TV Movie or Mini-Series. Non-scripted or partially scripted telecasts must involve principal casting of actors and cannot be a reality, reality competition or game show.
or

Reality Casting Professional credited on-screen for a minimum of 25 (twenty-five) hours or 25 (twenty-five) episodes (not less than 20 minutes per episode) of a reality, reality competition or game show for national exhibition
or

Current title no less than Executive Vice President of Casting, Senior Vice President of Casting or Vice President of Casting with responsibilities that include supervising casting for scripted telecommunications for national exhibition.
or

Responsible for having supervised a minimum of 200 hours of scripted telecommunications for national exhibition. (When combining hours toward supervising qualifications, principal casting will be credited as 10 supervising hours for every 1 hour of principal Casting)
or

If Nominated for an Emmy within 4 years of application for membership

or
A body of work that is approved by the Casting PGEC to warrant waiving the above requirements. “Body of Work” is defined as a Casting Director or Reality Casting Professional recognized by the casting community for their achievements or contributions to the craft and profession of casting.

Individuals who do not meet the requirements for Active Status but have been actively engaged in the area of casting, including the casting of extras or atmosphere, reality or reality competition, including individuals engaged as Associates, Assistants or Coordinators, for a period no less that two (2) years.

All applications are subject to approval by the presiding Peer Group Governor(s) and/or the Peer Group Executive Committee.

Governors

If/when the Reality Casting Professional membership reaches and maintains 50% of the Peer Group membership for 5 consecutive years, then one of the two Governors may be a Reality Casting Professional.

Membership/Voting

In the event that a member qualifies for both Casting Director and Reality Casting Professional, the member must declare to which sub-group they wish to belong and may only vote in that sub-group.

Children's Programming

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Involvement in Children's Television Programming or Children's New Media Programming for a minimum of two (2) years in the capacity of Executive, Producer, Writer, Director or Talent
and
At least 75% of work must be in Children's Television Programming or Children's New Media Programming.

Involved in Children's Television Programming or Children's New Media Programming in an Executive or Creative Position but has not met the above requirements for Active membership.

Cinematographers

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Screen credit as Director of Photography on at least 10 hours of programming for national exhibition.

Any person who has not compiled sufficient time or screen credits to meet above criteria for Active membership.

Commercials

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Employment in one of the classifications covered by the other Peer Groups (except Performers) on at least 20 national commercials.
or
Employment as a Performer in at least 10 national commercials.

Infomercials

Applicants need to meet all current qualifications of the branch and have participated in a minimum of twelve (12) national infomercials
or
A combination of a minimum of five (5) infomercials and a minimum of ten (10) commercials for national exhibition.

Associate Status (Commercials & Infomercials)

Employment by any person in a position which would normally qualify for Active Membership, but who has not compiled sufficient credits for Active membership
or
May also be drawn from Advertising Agencies, Commercial Production and Post Production companies and the Creative Support Services Community.

Costume Design & Supervision

Employment as Costume Designer or Costume Supervisor on at least 25 hours of programming for national exhibition.

Any Costume Designer or Costume Supervisor who has not compiled the sufficient time or screen credits required for Active membership
or
Costume Set Persons with 25 hours of nationally televised programming to their credit in no less than four (4) consecutive years
or
Head Tailors, Workroom Supervisors or Heads of Independent Costume Manufacturing Facilities who have held that position for a minimum of six (6) consecutive months in no less than four (4) consecutive years.

Daytime Programming

Directors

Directors: Screen credits as Director on at least 15 hours of programming for national exhibition or 5 Movies-of-the-Week within a ten-year period.

Choreographers: Screen credits as Choreographer on at least 15 hours of programming for national exhibition or 5 Movies-of-the-Week within a ten-year period.

Directors Team Members: Screen credits as Unit Production Manager (film), First Assistant Director (film), Associate Director (video), Stage Manager (video), and Script Supervisor (film and/or video) on at least 15 hours of programming for national exhibition or 5 Movies-of-the-Week within a ten-year period.

Extended to all persons in the above categories who have not yet met all the criteria for Active membership.

Electronic Production

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

The operator runs the photographic/electronic device that creates the images on which the video production is based.

ENGINEERING (Including Maintenance, Design and Management)\
Eligible for Primetime Emmy program ballot only.
Several job categories including the maintenance, design, and management of technical facilities.

LIGHTING DIRECTOR/LIGHTING DESIGNER/
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY (HD digital/SD video)
Responsible for the design/layout of the lighting instruments, focus, and cuing of the illumination of the show.

MEDIA STORAGE/CAPTURE/TRANSFER (Electronic)
Eligible for Primetime Emmy program ballot only.
Videotape Operator (Including loaders, machine to machine transfer.)
Records and/or duplicates shows. May do some tape editing.
Digital Media Storage Operator
Capture, transfer, ingest, and export.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Supervises crew and overall technical operations of the show. Often “switches” show or oversees single camera recordings.

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS (Including new technologies)
Eligible for Primetime Emmy program ballot only.
Several job categories, including Camera Utility.
Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) High Definition (HD)
Sets-up and maintains HD Terminal Equipment, HD Cameras,
Monitoring Facilities, and Interfaces.
Responsible for electronic systems for Lighting Director/Designer or Director of
Photography, Video Control, Production, Sound, and Studio Facilities.
1st Assistant Camera (Electronic)
Under the direction of the camera operator, 1st Assistant Camera controls focus,
zoom, manual iris setting.

VIDEO CONTROL (Including live camera shading and telecine transfer shading)
Sets up cameras and controls video quality and appearance of productions.

VIDEOTAPE EDITOR
Assembles taped segments of shows to conform with the script in an artistic and technically correct form. Edits programs whose original recording medium is electronic.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicant must indicate one or more of the above positions on the application.

Employment on less than 25 hours of programming for national exhibition in one or more of the above named positions.

Interactive Media

Persons involved in the creative development, business development, production, maintenance, distribution, marketing, and advertising of "interactive programming," i.e., programming [content] which enables the viewer to both view and simultaneously manipulate, alter, interact with or affect the content by means of remote delivery services, such as but not limited to broadcast, cable, satellite, broadband, 3G/4G which are generally available to a majority of U.S. homes through television sets, computers, mobile and connected consumer electronics devices.

Verifiable employment for 36 months of the past 48 months in a senior position and responsible for the development, production, maintenance, distribution, marketing or advertising of interactive media programming.

Verifiable employment for 12-36 months of the past 48 months in a position directly involved with the development, production, maintenance, distribution, marketing or advertising of interactive media programming.

Los Angeles Area

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) must have been met within the four years preceding one’s application for membership. Such requirements apply to the production or distribution of audio/visual works for national, local, or Los Angeles Area television market exhibition.

Applicants will have worked for at least four years as a professional engaged in
Telecommunications Production and Distribution for the Metropolitan Los Angeles
area.

Applicants who meet the requirements for ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP will not be considered for ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP.
or
Exhibit a body of work to be determined by the Los Angeles Peer Group
Executive Committee to warrant waiving the above requirements.

Individuals who do not meet the requirements for Active membership status but
have been actively engaged in Los Angeles Area Television Production and Distribution for a period of not less two (2) years and not more than four (4) years.

NOTE: If, as an ASSOCIATE MEMBER, you have reached or surpassed the four (4) year qualification requirement, upon vetting of your credentials, you will automatically be reclassified as an ACTIVE MEMBER and will be billed at the ACTIVE status membership fee.

Makeup Artists/Hairstylists

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Employment as a Makeup Artist or Hairstylist on at least 25 hours of programming for national exhibition within a 4 year period and a minimum of 2 years experience.  The 25 hours shall be verified by a Department Head and/or credits.  Any protest shall be decided by the PGEC.
or

A significant body of work to be defined as a minimum 10 years cumulative work in Television as a Department Head for national exhibition, verified and approved by the PGEC.
or
If you have received a Daytime or Primetime Emmy Nomination within the last 4 years

Any Makeup Artist or Hairstylist who has not yet met the requirements for Active Status.
or
Any individual who designs, supervises, sculpts or manufactures makeup or hairstyling products, but does not apply it.

Music

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Music applicants (with the exception of music directors and conductors) must furnish the following:

  • aggregate length of musical cues in minutes
  • aggregate length of shows with cues
  • underline or circle name on cue sheets submitted

Composition of Original Music for six hours of programming for national exhibition. The aggregate length of the instrumental cues must be a minimum of 30 minutes. The music must be substantially unique and original for each episode.
or
Theme for a national communications series. Themes must be original works, written for the specific show submitted. Final cue sheets, as prepared by the show and submitted to the appropriate performing rights agency, must be submitted with application for verification of credits or, the case of syndicated shows, a "Producer's Syndication Listing" must be submitted with application for verification of credits,
or
Music Director and Conductor for six hours of programming for nation exhibition. (Persons who act in a purely supervisory capacity but use the titles of "Music Director" and/or "Music Supervisor" are ineligible for Active membership but may be eligible for Associate Membership)
or
Credited Writer of the Lyrics or Composer of Special Material. Songs must be original works, with words and music, written for the specific show submitted, and broadcast nationally. Songwriter submissions are exempt from the six hours of national programming requirement, but at least five original songs must be submitted. (Cue sheets must be submitted with application for verification of credits)
or
The Arranging and/or Orchestration of the Music for 12 hours of programming for national exhibition.

Applicants without the required number of qualifying hours in a single category may request consideration under Combined Credits: Acceptance of Combined Credits will be at the sole discretion of the Music Peer Group Executive Committee.

At their discretion, the music peer group governors may submit any application for membership to the PGEC for final approval.

Participation in the Production of Music, such as Orchestrators, Musicians, Programmers and Composers' assistants, Music Directors and Music Supervisors, as previously indicated in paragraph 2 above.

Non-Fiction Programming

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Primary professional function and on-air credits in the area of television documentary, informational or other nonfiction programming at the national level.

Applicants will have worked for at least two (2) years in one of the following job categories (with creative input) including but not limited to:

Eight credits of programming for national exhibition in a principal or featured role within the past four (4) years. (A principal or featured role is defined as a contracted major role, or a role consisting of six lines of dialogue or more.)

Voice-over performers with eight qualifying credits of programming for national exhibition.
or
A significant and distinguished body of work to be determined by the PGEC.

(Appearances in news magazines and talk shows do not qualify as performance credits. Appearances in reality programming qualify only if the performer has been cast in a principal or featured role as defined above).

Two years professional work in the telecommunications industry and at least one featured credit in a program for national exhibition within the last two years.

Pictures Editors

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Screen Credit as Picture Editor on at least 8 hours of programming for national exhibition in the previous four (4) years.

In addition, applicant must have worked as a Picture Editor for at least three (3) out of the previous four (4) years, with at least one (1) screen credit per year, before applying for membership.

Picture Editors with less than 8 hours of screen credit, and Assistant Editors and Post Production Supervisors with at least 12 months professional experience
or
Editing Teachers with at least 12 months professional experience in Picture Editing. Post Production Facilities Personnel with at least 12 months professional experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Producers

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Screen credit as Executive Producer, Co-Executive Producer, Supervising Producer, Producer, or Produced By on at least:

2 long form programs produced for national exhibition. A long form program is defined as a movie-of-the-week, mini-series or special running 2 hours or more in combined length;
or

13 cumulative episodes of scripted drama, comedy or variety series (either half-hour or one hour in length) produced for national exhibition.

or
26 cumulative work weeks of either a strip or once-a-week game show, talk show, drama or alternative/non-scripted/reality show (either half-hour or one hour in length) produced for national exhibition where employment is on a weekly basis, as opposed to episodically;

or
A pro rata equivalent combination of any of the above criteria.

Body of Work Clause
Individuals, who have significant body of work as a producer within television, as determined by the Producers Peer Group Executive Committee, may also be recommended for Active Status membership.

Any person who has received screen credit in the above titles but who has not compiled sufficient hours of produced national exhibition programming to qualify for full Active membership.
or
Any person on the Producers team who has received screen credit (as Co-Producer, Line Producer, Segment Producer, Field Producer, Coordinating Producer, Associate Producer, Story Producer, Show Producer, Production Supervisor, Production Manager, Production Coordinator or a like screen credit on at least one episode produced for national exhibition.

Associate members of the Producers Peer Group may appeal to Active status under the “Body of Work Clause”, pending review and approval by the Producers Peer Group Executive Committee.

Production Executives

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Employment as an executive (director level or above) for at least 2 years within the past 4 years with oversight of creative content within the context of any and all genres of production and post production of programming for studios, networks, visual media, broadband and production companies.

Employment at a manager level or below with oversight of creative content within the context of any and all genres of production and post production of programming for studios, networks, visual media, broadband and production companies for less than two years.

Professional Representatives

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

1. Agents, managers, attorneys and business managers a substantial portion of whose clientele comprises artists or production, distribution, broadcasting or telecommunications companies working in programming for national exhibition; or

2. Agents, managers, attorneys and business managers a substantial portion of whose clientele comprises unions or trade or professional associations whose members work in programming for national exhibition; or

3. Individuals who are employed in a major executive capacity at a union whose members work in programming for national exhibition; or

4. Individuals who are employed in a major executive capacity at an agency or management company or at a trade or professional association whose members are agents, managers, attorneys or business managers who satisfy the criteria set forth in paragraphs 1 or 2; and

5. For all of the preceding paragraphs, that the applicant have at least three years experience as an agent, manager, attorney, business manager or in a major executive capacity working in programming for national exhibition.

1. Individuals otherwise qualified under paragraphs 1 or 2 except with fewer than 3 years relevant experience; or

2. Individuals employed as trainees at an agencies or management companies at least 1 year.

Public Relations

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Current employment at the equivalent of the publicist level or above for at least two years; and actively engaged in the publicizing of telecommunications programs, as opposed to individuals, for national exhibition , in the areas of publicity or public relations.
or
Twenty-four months of accumulated work at the equivalent of the publicist level within the past four (4) years in the publicizing of telecommunications programs, as opposed to individuals, for national exhibition, in the areas of publicity or public relations.

Extended to persons in the above job descriptions who have met some but not all criteria for Active membership.

Sound

Any person who has received credit as Sound Editor/Sound Effects Editor, Dialogue Editor, Music Editor or Foley Artist but who has not compiled sufficient time or credits required for Active membership.

Special Visual Effects

Verifiable creative employment in Special Visual Effects, with distinction for twenty-five (25) hours of programming for Primetime national exhibition
or
A significant body of work in the design and creation of Special Visual Effects to be determined by the Peer Group Executive Committee.

Any person creatively employed in telecommunications special visual effects who has not compiled sufficient time or credits to meet the criteria for Active membership.

Stunts

Ten (10) stunt contracts (daily, weekly or other free-lance engagement) for programming for national exhibition within the last four (4) years as:

Stunt Coordinator
Stunt Double
Stunt Player (Non-Descript)
Stunt Player (Character Role)
Stunt Player (Utility)
Fight or Aerial Coordinator
Stunt Safety
Safety Stunt Diver

or
A significant body of work to be determined by the Peer Group Executive Committee.

Appearances in news magazine shows, talk shows, daredevil and thrill shows and live exhibitions (such as half-time shows) do not qualify as stunt contracts.

At least 2 years professional work in the telecommunications industry and at least four (4) stunt (daily, weekly or other free-lance engagement) for programming for national exhibition within the past four (4) years.

Television Executives

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Employment by a television broadcast, cable, production or distribution company as a senior level executive (Director or above) with an impact on creative/content for at least 2 years within the past 4 years or a qualifying work history to be determined by the Peer Group Executive Committee.

Title Design

Two years experience in telecommunications title design, including graphics, and have designed a minimum of five titles for programs for national exhibition (daytime or primetime

Any person creatively employed in telecommunications title design who has not compiled sufficient time or credits to meet the criteria for Active membership.

Writers

Please note that any requirements for credits, number of programs, number of hours or days, or percentages of time spent (as outlined below) are requirements which must have been met within the four years preceding one's application for membership; also, such requirements apply in each instance to the production or distribution of audio visual works for national exhibition.

Solo or shared ON-AIR credit on programs for national exhibition in the form "Written by," "Teleplay by," "Story Editor," "Executive Story Consultant," or "Created by" on at least:

Two daytime or primetime special programs 1 1/2 hours or more in length
or
Four one-hour daytime or primetime programs in the drama, comedy, variety, or animation genres in any combination
or
Six one-half hour daytime or primetime programs in the drama, comedy, variety, or animation genres in any combination
or
ON-AIR credits for twelve half hour or twelve one hour daytime dramas
or
A significant body of work to be determined by the Peer Group Executive Committee.

Employment by a person in one of the above listed categories for a minimum of two on-air writing credits, or six weeks staff writing.
