Giotto's Encounter with Comet 26P/Grigg-Skellerup:
The Scientific Data

The Giotto Extended Mission (GEM) Archive

This CDROM, produced by the European Space Agency in collaboration with the PDS Small Bodies Node, presents scientific results from the Giotto Extended Mission (GEM) observations. It consists of a single CD, supplemented by the addenda and errata noted below. The CD data are divided into subdirectories by instrument and/or observation type, with additional directories containing the PDS support and documentation files. For more information please see to the aareadme.txt and document subdirectories on the CDROM itself.

NOTE: Addenda and Errata are listed below.

Results Included on the Disk

The position data and additional documentation on attitude and the experimenter support tape (position data included) are in the "ephemris" subdirectory.

Dust Impact Detector (DID)

Energetic Particle Analyzer (EPA) Radio Science Experiment (GRE) Ion Mass Spectrometer (IMS) High-Intensity Data Johnstone Particle Analyzer (JPA) Merged JPA/Magnetometer Data Magnetometer Optical Probe Experiment (OPE)

Addenda

These data were inadvertently left off the first pressing of the GEM disk, but will be included in the next version.

CCD Images

These three pre-encounter images were submitted by a group (Jones, et al.) with Mullard Space Science Laboratory. The data were recorded at the AAO through narrow-band filters that measured H2O+. The image files are in FITS format; a PDS label is also provided.

This post-encounter image is a composite of five short exposures taken through a broad band red filter at ESO. The group was represented by Klaus Joeckers, who submitted the "dust" image.

Errata

This file replaces the file "catalog/ccd_inst.cat":
