1 hour ago comment added my2cts @JánLalinský I agree that this is solely a problem of QFT. Declaring QFT not applicable to outside its narrow range of application does not help, however. The problem is that QFT assumes an infinite spectrum of DoF.
21 hours ago comment added Ján Lalinský That is a pseudo-problem in QFT, because with such cutoff, the theory is very successful in its narrow range of application. There is still no successful quantum theory of gravity, and no serious reason to think the lambda parameter in Einstein's equations has anything to do with ZPE in QFT. The immense numerical disagreement between these two quantities points rather to inadequacy of QFT and its ZPE to questions such as the origin and value of the lambda parameter.

yesterday comment added my2cts @JánLalinský That seems right but 'Depending on the Planck energy cutoff and other factors, the quantum vacuum energy contribution to the effective cosmological constant is calculated to be between 50 and as many as 120 orders of magnitude greater than has actually been observed' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmological_constant_problem
yesterday comment added Ján Lalinský Even finite universe has infinite ZPE, the usual problem is due to infinite UV contribution (arbitrarily high wave numbers).
yesterday comment added Ján Lalinský What real physics is lost in field theory, if ZPE=0?
yesterday comment added Ján Lalinský Why does $\hbar \omega /2 $ contribute to inertial mass? Can you give an example of calculation in quantum theory which produces inertial mass of a composite system similar to harmonic oscillator, which works if ZPE is $\hbar \omega/2$, and doesn't work if ZPE is zero?
