Last week's winning screenshot one

To submit a screenshot, simply post it as an answer to this question, but please take note of the following:

  • One screenshot per post, and one post per person, please!
  • Limited picture modifications are allowed, such as cropping, simple filters, and blurring of identifying info such as names, but not adding other images or text.
  • To ensure a fair playing field, please post screenshots you've taken yourself rather than ones you found online.
  • Stack Exchange’s Code of Conduct still applies - so if it would be unacceptable to post normally, it’s unacceptable here.

Also, try to avoid pictures that include spoilers. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this contest, so the less spoilers the better.

How long will the contest run?

We will accept submissions for a week, until June 23, 2025, then have a second week-long period where only voting will be accepted. This is to give every submission, even those posted at the end of the first week, a chance to be voted on by everyone.

After the end of the second week, at June 30, 2025, we will count upvotes only to determine the winning screenshot, which will be featured for a week on the main site's photo widget.

  • @GammaGames Thanks for the heads-up. Sounds like a game I should never play. On Final Fantasy XV alone, I have 6k screenshots, for a total of over 20k on Steam... 💀 Commented Jun 17 at 18:27

As long as I'm still in Rattay, I might as well sneak into the bushes to make some candid photos with my portable camera obscura:

  • I miss these graphics, which I used to call "good 3D graphics" Commented Jun 17 at 18:29
  • @Clockwork I'm curious; can you explain what it is that sets this apart from other (newer?) graphics? Commented Jun 17 at 18:48
  • I never owned the PS2, but this feels like the PS2 era which I considered to be "good 3D graphics" (Kingdom Hearts 2, GTA Vice City, Final Fantasy X, etc.), whereas PS3 era is more what I called "advanced/beautiful 3D graphics" (Final Fantasy XIII). Maybe I'm becoming old? Commented Jun 17 at 19:02
  • Not gonna lie, that came to my mind recently when I rewatched gameplay footage of a game called "Star Wars Pod Racer" on Win98. On a still frame, it obviously looked like dated graphics, but while racing, I didn't even pay attention, I just thought: "that looks immersive" Commented Jun 17 at 19:05

@Clockwork It's funny you mention that under a screenshot of a CryEngine, the engine that was once the benchmark ("but can it play Crysis?") for all video games. And in comparison to a game like Star Wars Pod Racer, Kingdom Come is still quite a good-looking game among the photorealistic/PBR graphics games. So I wonder if it has more to do with colours (which, especially for this game, are supposed to be realistic, and do feel less 'artistic') or with certain effects, like Global Illumination and Ambient Occlusion types. There is a harshness to some of the models here, as well, so I'll see if I can get a more organic-looking screenshot from the game. And then compare it to an ENB (and perhaps ReShade Ray-Traced Global Illumination) :) Commented Jun 17 at 19:44
  • Now that you mention it and I look closer, yeah, it's a notch above GTA Vice City, and more polished than Skyrim too. Commented Jun 17 at 22:42

@Clockwork KCD being "a notch above GTA Vice City" (graphics-wise) is quite an understatement, though :D Commented Jun 18 at 7:23

There was this baby Yoshi you could feed with Yoshi cookie in Super Mario RPG on Yoshi's Island. Feed him enough and he turned into one big Yoshi... I forgot if that served any purpose though :| Commented Jun 20 at 19:06

Inside Del Fharris Castle. Alphen is seemingly standing a the bottom of a set of stairs steps. The architecture looks very complex and there's stained glass around.
