From Old Swedish qviþer (belly, stomach, womb), from Old Norse kviðr, from Proto-Germanic *kweþuz. Cognate with Icelandic kviður, Old English cwiþ, Gothic 𐌵𐌹𐌸𐌿𐍃 (qiþus).
