Guny (French pronunciation: [ɡyni]) is a commune in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France.
History
[edit]In 858, Guny's village is given to the abbey of Notre-Dame of Soissons by Charles the Bold.
In 1368, Enguerrand VII of Coucy grants the collectivity franchise to Guny and twenty-two other churches.
1914–1918, World War I devastated the village. From 27 August until 28 September 1918 the 11th and 20th infantry fought the Battle of Ailette around Guny's quarries.
Saint Georges' church was destroyed. It was restored in 1923.
A new bell was inaugurated in November 1923, in a temporary church.
Geography
[edit]The river Ailette forms all of the commune's northeastern border.
