My front door has a wood edge on the step to get in that is seemingly rotting and has torn away. Right now it has tape to get it to stay.

I’m trying to figure out who to call to come and fix it. Do you think a general contractor or a handyman type?

That looks to be an edge added to the framing and not part of some wood rotting. It is more of a trim piece.

It is most likely that the nails holding it on have rusted. You can shoot some screws in to hold it back on the framing. 2-3 inch finishing screws can do the trick. Then renew the caulking and touch up the paint.

If you are not comfortable doing this, a handyman should be able to do it easily. There is no need for a contractor.

  • I would advise to pre-drill through the piece where the screws will go to prevent splitting. Commented Sep 10 at 14:37
  • @ stevieb 2, Generally not bad advice , but the screws I suggested and many other finish/trim screws are self drilling. Commented Sep 10 at 16:42
